Original Complaint against American Campus published at on 26-Jul-14 says, verbatim –

My daughter leased an apartment from American Campus Community located in University Village at FSU. The move in date was 08/23/13, but we paid a $99 deposit and $549.00 in rent by 08/01/13. Her roommate moved in, the apartment was dirty. The a/c was not working, the toilet was not working, a few of the kitchen cabinet doors were hanging askew, the carpets were filthy and apparently full of fleas. | As she moved in, she started to get attacked by fleas. Her father was moving her in and he was also attacked by fleas. She let the general manager know and they said they would treat the area. They did treat with grocery store flea bombs and it did not work. They retreated with the same product and it did nothing to curb the fleas. | On Saturday evening, 08/24/13, we went into the apartment to check it out and the fleas were jumping all over us. I spoke with the regional manager and he refused to send in a professional pest control company because of the cost. The contract/lease agreement we have states that the contract is null/void if the unit is uninhabitable. They will not return our phone calls, emails, texts or letters. We have contacted the corporate office and the regional manager, Ben Martin and the general manager Chelsea and have not had any contact from them since August 27, 2013. | This company has no ethics or professional responsibility. They actually sent each of the 3 girls email notices saying their September rent was not paid. Not only did they not honor their part of the lease, they are not releasing the girls from the lease. | Maryann, Tampa, FL
