This has to be one of the worst companies I have had to deal with since purchasing my home in January of 2011. My existing home warranty policy expired in January 2012, and I purchased a home warranty through Colonial in March 2012. They have a 30 day period after you purchase that you can not file a claim, after the 30 days you are allowed to. I have not had very many issues with my home thankfully, and when I did have a problem in May 2012, with my ac unit, they refused to pay for the repairs needed. nThey had the technician come to my house on May 2nd 2012, he informed them that I needed a new blower motor. They did not give him the go ahead to fix it, although he had everything with him and had informed them that it was normal wear and tear, and it was not a user/maintenance issue. I had to call the next day to figure out why, they informed me that in order to repair the unit they needed 2 years of maintenance records or a home inspection and 1 year maintenance records, since I have not lived here for 2 years. I had no idea that they could even request this information and deny your claim because of this. nI asked to speak with the supervisor and was informed that I was speaking with a supervisor, and that there was no one above him other than corporate, which you have to email your complaints to. I told the guy on the phone that I no longer wished to have services through them. Here is where the real problems started. He informed me that I would be getting less than $200 back because a cancellation fee, a prorated fee, some other fee, and because they had to send someone to my house. I paid over $400 dollars for this policy that has done absolutely nothing for me. When asked why I would be getting so little of my money back, I was informed of all these so called fees, which I would not have had a problem with, until they tried to in my opinion steal money from me for 1 month of service, which I would not have. $81 I would not get back for 1 month of service I was not allowed to use, and 1 month that I was not going to have their services. They would not by any means give me my money for the month of May even though I was cancelling their policy 1 day after their month started. They just kept telling me its corporate policy, so corporate policy is to steal from your consumers and not do what you promised to do in the first place? People have home warranties to protect themselves against costly repairs. nBe careful who you chose to protect your home, and protect your wallet. These people will do everything they can to avoid fixing things in your home, and they are making good money doing. You don’t want to be stuck in my situation where you have no air conditioning or heat, a worthless home warranty policy that isn’t going to fix anything, a corporation who does not care about their consumer and they are thieves, and now a costly repair that you can not really afford. Worst of all, even if I do purchase a new warranty at the end of May, this still will not get fixed because now its a known preexisting condition.
