Continued from the Stone Clinic’s review:I also feared that my premium rates would rise to the point where I could no longer afford it.I had to downgrade my insurance once, and now with that charge, my insurance premiums skyrocketed 37% in 18 months.I am really afraid it won’t be long before I can’t afford insurance at all anymore.And it’s because the manager and the doctors who own San Francisco Surgery Center are so greedy, they couldn’t care less what happens to their patients.I argued with the San Francisco Surgery Center’s manager, John Lansberry about the charges, and he finally said I could pay $3670 for the surgical room and anesthesiologist.But he absolutely refused to send me an invoice for that amount so I could turn it in for reimbursement.I think it’s pretty obvious he doesn’t want Blue Cross to find out about the huge difference in charges.He then gave me a deadline for paying him without a statement, and even though I was more than willing to pay it with an invoice, Lansberry turned it over to a collection agency.I went back and forth with them, telling them that all I wanted was a statement for the correct amount and I would pay.I believe the gal contacted Lansberry and told him this, but he refused her as well, and they stopped communicating with me.So because of him, my excellent credit rating has taken a big hit.I e-mailed Dr. Stone twice regarding this situation and asked for his help.Lansberry must have lied through his teeth because the doctor came back and admonished me for hiding my insurance coverage.I have an e-mail that proves I gave his staff my insurance coverage a whole 7 weeks before the surgery.It was his staff that dropped the ball in giving it to the staff at the Surgery Center.But if they had, I never would have found out how bad they want to rip off all of the patients’ insurance companies which will raise every patients’ premiums.I have 2 separate statements on the same day from Dr. Stone’s office.One said a “major debridement” would be $4900, while the other one said it would be $675.With the charges for that and notchplasty $585, removal of osteophytes $565, chondroplasty $525, and removal of loose bodies $475, the charge for 2 knees should have been $5650.With the surgical assistant’s charges, it should have been $8470.I was charged $18,154 at the doctor’s office. No wonder I got such a huge discount.But I now believe I was still overcharged a lot more than the $3000 discount.Working with the accounts manager at the office was a nightmare.I called the office to let them know I was stuck in traffic on the Bay Bridge.He answered the phone and chewed me out, telling me the therapist had a full day scheduled and I should be there on time.I arrived 5 minutes late and the therapist was still working with another patient.So he was rude and obnoxious for no reason. He charged me $620 for 2 ice machines.In fact, I had bought my own cheaper, and he made me prove that by showing him the invoice.I asked for a refund, but he only gave me $460, charging me for a therapy session I never had.I asked him to talk to the therapist who would tell him I didn’t have a session, but he refused.It wasn’t until I wrote to the doctor’s executive assistant that I got the full refund.I was refunded for the $50 cancellation fee. I saw where one of the reviewers was charged $275 for his office visit.I was charged $450. His therapy was $60. Mine was $120. And he charged me $60 for 2 x-rays I never had.I pointed out to him that I sent 5 x-rays and 2 MRIs, so I would have argued about the need for more x-rays.I couldn’t tell you where the x-ray room is if my life depended on it since I didn’t have any x-rays taken.And I never met the x-ray technician until 2 days after the surgery when he took me up to the office in a wheelchair.The account manager sent me an x-ray which I took to a radiologist here.When she put both of them up to the light, it was immediately clear, even to me, by the shape of the bones, that it wasn’t an x-ray of my knee.Later he sent me another x-ray which wasn’t mine. I was charged $280 for local anesthesia I didn’t have.So even though I tried to reason with the accounts manager and the manager of the surgery center, they both ended up doing a job on me.I can’t afford what they did to me. I read with interest a review on the Stone Clinic from a man who was so happy with his and his GF surgeries, he said “we’re up to 3 surgeries and several non-surgical issues.”In 6 hours of therapy, I met 3 other patients who needed more surgery.The doctor did nothing for me that would cure my problems for long-term.It makes me wonder how many other patients need to return for more surgery.
