I typically do my own taxes, but this year I wanted to get a professionals attention. I actually completed a draft return before I sought Wallys help to confirm I got it right.Wally sent me a tax return with double the required payment. A quick review of the 1040 showed he made two big errors on two separate forms, and I couldnt figure out where he even came up with those numbers.I didnt receive an apology or a “this never happens. The second return he gave me corrected one error, but not the second.Finally, Wally gave me a return that was in the ballpark of the return I drafted before I sought his help.I asked in email for a confirmation that my return was submitted, and I didnt get a response. I called on Apr.15 and was told by an assistant that my return would be submitted but that I wouldnt get a confirmation of submission.I emailed Wally the next day to follow up, and he wrote back, “I spoke with you yesterday and told you that they were going to be submitted and indeed they were!The day after that he forwarded me documentation confirming the submission.Why he couldnt just send that instead of a curt and inaccurate (I didnt speak with him) response, I dont know.I admit I sought Wallys help late in the tax season, but if the time pressure was too much, it would have been better to turn me away if he felt he couldnt give my return enough attention. Instead, he did a poor job.
